Frequently Asked Questions

Why did you name your company "Go The Distance" Productions?

I love movies. I have always been fascinated with the filmmaking process. From writing, to filming, and finally to editing: all that goes into producing a film interests me. I consume movies and information about filmmaking the way a starving man would consume a ham on Christmas!

Two of my favorite films are "Rocky" and "Field of Dreams." In both of these films, "Going the Distance" is a central theme. Rocky desires to "Go the distance" in his fight with Apollo Creed in order to prove that he is not "just another bum from the neighborhood." In Field of Dreams, Ray Kinsella gets a message from the mysterious voice to "Go the distance" in seeking to make amends in the rift between him and his father. Both movies hold powerful memories and evoke strong emotions for me. Hence the name, Go The Distance Productions.

In my efforts as a filmmaker and wedding videographer, my desire is to "Go The Distance" for my clients. I want you to view your wedding films, be thrilled with the results, and know that I have put every effort into my passion for telling  your "Love Story."

What is the process for having a wedding film made for me?

My first contact with a couple is usually via an e-mail or telephone conversation. If after the initial contact you are interested in contracting a service, I recommend a face-to-face meeting or a Face Time chat as the next step. This conversation will let us get to know each other a little bit. This is important because the wedding film will be your story, and I want to get to know you if I’m going to tell it.

After you make a booking, we’ll have a detailed discussion about your wedding plans, and we’ll be in touch before the big day, just to confirm all the logistics.

The filming of your wedding day is then done with professionalism and sensitivity.

Next comes the extensive and careful editing process – and within 3 months you’ll receive the final product.

How do I make a reservation for your services?

The first thing you should do is contact me to see if I´m available. Once I confirm with you that your date is open, you can choose the package that you need (or create a customized package) for your wedding day. Once you make the first payment for the services you want to reserve (30% of the total due), your reservation will be confirmed.

Will you travel?

Absolutely. We will travel up to 75 miles at no additional fee. We typically shoot weddings in southeast Alabama, southwest Georgia, and the panhandle of Florida. Travel fees don’t start applying until I (we) travel beyond 75 miles or have to get in a plane, book a hotel, or reserve a vehicle.

How long does it take to get our wedding film?

It typically takes 8-10 weeks, but for larger projects it can take up to 3 months.

That seems like a long time. Can you do it faster?

Yes, I could do it faster. However, the quality would definitely suffer. Editing is a huge project, and it needs a lot of time and dedication. Typically, 60-80 hours are needed to properly edit a wedding film, sometimes more. I know you are eager to see your film, but it cannot be done overnight. Remember, this is where the magic happens!

Can I help pick the music for the video?

No, and here is the deal with music. Music is a very powerful force that evokes feelings and emotions in an instant. This is why when I choose the music, it is not a quick or arbitrary decision. I don't pick music because it sounds like “something that would be in a wedding video.” I take multiple factors into account: the feel of the day, the emotions between the couple, the look of the wedding, the location, and much more. I want the music to be a compliment to the footage not an afterthought. This is a time consuming process, but it is 100% worth the effort because down the road that music will replay in your head and will always evoke emotions associated with your wedding day. Price includes music licensing, and music must be licensed. Also, we don’t re-use music/songs; we are making a film about YOUR wedding day, and to keep it truly yours we choose music that is individual to your experience.

When do I pay and how does the payment work?

Once a package has been selected (or a customized package created), the first payment will be 30% of the total due and is non-refundable. Your date is not secured until this reservation deposit has been received.

Final payment will be made at least one month prior to the wedding day. Failure to make this payment will result in the loss of your booking.

Currently, I accept cash and personal checks.

Do you shoot alone or do you have an assistant?

I am the lead videographer/cinematographer, but I will have either one or two assistants to help me. This will be dependent on the type of wedding package you select: Signature, Platinum, or VIP.

If you have questions about the differences among packages, please get in touch. I’d be more than happy to talk you through the differences in detail. We can even customize a package for you to meet the unique needs of your wedding day.

Will my wedding film be featured on your website?

Not all the films I create will be featured on my website. I typically only show a select few. I select the films in order to showcase a range of styles. Rest assured, this is not a judgment about the quality of your film!

I can’t wait to start working with you. Get in touch if you have any more questions.

Are you a certified drone pilot?

Yes. I am a FAA certified commercial drone pilot. The FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) has strict regulations and procedures in place in order to legally operate a Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS), commonly known as a drone. In order to legally fly a drone for anything other than a hobby, the UAS must be registered and the pilot must pass a knowledge test.
